Three Outdoor Plumbing Tips for Summer

As the temperatures turn warmer, it’s time to move outside! Whether it’s grilling, relaxing, or gardening, the summer months are a great time to get some fresh air. Now is a great time to do some routine maintenance to your gutters, sprinklers, and hoses. Here are some plumbing tips to help!

Clean Gutters and Down Spouts

If you happen to notice any debris inside your gutters or downspouts, now is the time to clean them out.

Check for anything like pine needles, leaves, twigs, etc. in your downspout because this will prevent water from flowing properly out of the gutter. Use a plumbers auger and clear out the downspouts which will help prevent any leaks inside your house and any possible water damage during a rain shower.

Check Your Sprinklers

If you are looking to keep your yard hydrated for the summertime, this tip will be very important to you! Make sure you have your irrigation system ready for the upcoming season by doing a necessary inspection of your sprinklers.

Look at all the valves to be sure that they are working properly because this will ultimately determine water flow and how hydrated your lawn will be. Check the nozzles and make sure they are clear of soil and rocks that might block the watering. Make sure you reset your timers to be sure you want the sprinkler to go off as scheduled.

Lastly, look for any possible leak in the lines, which would appear as sunken patches on your lawn.

Check Your Hoses

Over time, rubber hoses can crack and break – especially in colder weather! Check your hoses and make sure that there are no holes that are visible enough to see.

If you don’t see anything, do a test run and see if any water is leaking out of a tiny hole that was invisible to the human eye. Make sure that your nozzles aren’t warped and still fit snug on the house bibs.
